About Clare….

Clare McAvoy is a Drama, English and Performing Arts teacher with 17 years’ experience teaching children and young people. She qualified from Queens University, Belfast with a joint honour’s degree in English & Drama and then stayed on at Queen’s School of Education to complete her PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).

Over the years Clare has taken part in local Musical Theatre Productions and directed many Plays for Local drama societies and sports clubs as fundraising events. Clare was nominated in the ‘Inspirational Teacher’ category at the Music & Drama Awards in London in March 2022, a prestigious national awards ceremony where only a select number of teachers in the UK were in attendance. She was a winner at the ‘Mighty Women Awards’ in 2023 and won the ‘Best South Down Business of the Year’ at the Local Women Awards in November 2023. These awards were all to recognise her love of teaching Drama and Acting as well as her ability to ensure that each pupil is taught to the highest standards.

Clare adjudicates the GAA Scór Competitions throughout Ireland in the Recitation and Dramatic sections of the competition. She is keen to always develop her professional skills. She attends many events to grow and learn to pass on to the children that she teaches.
